The service was wonderful but pretty slow. We didn't mind because we weren't in a hurry. Great accessibility for wheelchair and walkers. The cookies were awesome too!

Farewell, my lovely. My Just Desserts recently announced they'll be closing at the end of March. My cousins and I quickly planned a luncheon at this popular lunch spot in Alton. My family has been a fan of MJD for pies for many years. At Thanksgiving, many of the pies on the dessert table came from My Just Desserts. I'll be honest, I am already missing them at this years Thanksgiving. However, we're ordering them for our Easter dinner. We all ordered a variety of items for lunch. One got the famous chicken salad and she was not disappointed. Others ordered different sandwiches and all commented how thick and filled with meat and cheese they were. MJD was not stingy with ingredients. I had a Chef Salad and it was huge. It was filled with mixed greens and iceberg lettuce, with the mixed green dominating the mixture. It then had freshly chopped veggies and shredded cheese. I chose Bleu Cheese dressing and they provided a good dollop right in the center. The bowl was large enough for me to mix and toss the salad until I had everything covered in dressing. I'll be ordering and picking up a couple of take-outs before they close, because it was that good. The star of our lunch was of course the pies. I love the t-shirts that the servers wear, "Order dessert first." It's good advice, because they can sell out of your favorite while you dine. Our table enjoyed; Lemon Coconut, Cherry, Apple Crumb and Mystery Pecan. All of them were delicious. I highly recommend you try to go and support this black and woman owned business during its last month of business.

This is definitely a hidden gem that is a must go to! It is set in an old building with natural hardwood floors and a view of the river. Beautiful quilts are hung throughout and the restaurant is meticulously clean! The staff were constantly cleaning tables and keeping on top of everything. The Pulled Pork Sandwich was tender and flavorful. The Turkey Club was absolutely delicious with fresh lettuce and tomatoes. We had the Turtle Pie and Toll House Brownies for dessert which were both incredible. A table near us had carrot cake and it looked amazing too! Our service was also great! Everyone was very friendly!

This lil family owned business has been through it. The original owner sold it to her chef years ago. While vacationing in Jamaica a few years back, the owner was in a fatal accident. Her family took over the business and has kept one of Alton's best lunch spots open. My kids grew up having lunch here with their late grandmother, so every time I walk through the door and see familiar faces, and smell the delicious food, it reminds me of her. The shrimp bisque was delicious and the pies are out of this world. Thank you to this wonderful talented family for keeping the dream and one of my favorite places to eat alive!

Some friends and I popped by for lunch a few weekends ago and it was great! We got there early and it started filling up fast. If you sit a little further back you'll get a lovely view of the river. I tried the Gomer (hot ham and cheese) and it was delicious. My friends tried the club & soup/salad - all good as well. Thankfully we all saved room for dessert ... and I got the Oreo pie. Ahhhh-mazing. Our service was friendly and our drinks were never empty. Definitely add this Alton gem to your lunch lists.
